Tesla worker refuses $15 million racism payout
A Black former Tesla worker who claimed racial mistreatment rejected a $15 million award after a judge cut it.
Owen Diaz, a Tesla elevator operator in Fremont, California, says he heard the "N-word" everyday.
He was granted $6.9 million for emotional suffering & $130 million in punitive damages. A judge lowered it to $15 million. Diaz's denial might imply a fresh trial.
Diaz claimed employees drew swastikas & left racist graffiti & drawings at the plant, & supervisors did nothing.
Tesla's spokesman couldn't be reached Wednesday night. AP reported this.
He was the first worker to reject a big ammount against racism.
