Madison Bumgarner of the Arizona Diamondbacks was ejected after the first inning of his start against the Miami Marlins on Wednesday.
Jon Berti led off with a home run, but Bumgarner retired the next three batters.
Following a lengthy examination of Bumgarner's left hand by Bellino, Bumgarner and Bellino exchanged words.
Bellino then ejected the four-time All-Star.
Bumgarner was ejected, Bellino told a pool reporter, for cursing an umpire.
The video showed Bellino staring at Bumgarner while he patted his hand, but Bellino denied that was a factor in his ejection.
"I wouldn't say he objected. The hand check," Bellino says.
Following his ejection, Bumgarner was restrained by Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo and catcher Jose Herrera.
