Bipartisan gun bill passes Senate

Late Thursday night, the Senate passed a bipartisan gun safety bill 65-33. All Democrats and 15 Republicans voted for the bill. 

As expected, Mitch McConnell supported final passage. Richard Burr, Roy Blunt, Shelley Moore Capito, Bill Cassidy, Susan Collins, John Cornyn, Pat Toomey & Todd Young backed the legislation. 

"Bipartisan legislation protects Americans. It will protect kids in schools and communities.

The House should approve quickly and send me this bipartisan bill "Biden: Before being signed into law, the House must pass the measure, & it might do so as early as Friday.

The Senate voted Thursday to end debate on the bill, which was drafted amid a rise in shootings.

15 Republicans joined 50 Democrats to cross a procedural barrier.

Senate rules require 30 hours of debate following cloture, but Majority Leader Chuck Schumer planned to hold a final vote Thursday.
