Using a neck float killed an infant. FDA warns parents against using them.

Throw away baby neck floats used for swimming or aquatic treatment. 

THE FDA WARNS AGAINST USING BABY NECK FLOATS AFTER ONE INFANT DIED & ANOTHER WAS ILL. BABY NECK FLOATS CAN CAUSE DROWNING, ASPHYXIA, NECK STRAIN, & INJURY.

BABIES WITH SPINA BIFIDA OR SMA TYPE 1 MAY BE AT INCREASED RISK FOR SERIOUS HARM, THE FDA SAID. 

DEATH OR MAJOR DAMAGE FROM NECK FLOATING IS RARE, BUT HEALTH CARE WORKERS, PARENTS, & CAREGIVERS SHOULD BE CAUTIOUS.

SOME CASES MAY NOT HAVE BEEN REPORTED TO FDA. NO ONE MONITORED THE DEAD OR DAMAGED BABY, ACCORDING TO THE FDA.

BABIES WITH SPINA BIFIDA, SPINAL MUSCULAR ATROPHY TYPE 1, DOWN SYNDROME, OR CEREBRAL PALSY USE THESE FLOATS DURING WATER THERAPY, THE GOVERNMENT ADDED.

NECK FLOATS LOOK LIKE POOL INNER-TUBES THAT GO AROUND A BABY'S NECK TO FLOAT WITHOUT BEING HELD. SOME NECK FLOATS ARE DESIGNED TO CRADLE A BABY'S HEAD.
