Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk welcomed twins with a Neuralink executive last year, Business Insider reported.
Musk quietly fathered the children with Shivon Zilis, who works for Musk at the company developing an implantable computer chip for the human brain, according to documents obtained by Business Insider.
Musk tweeted on May 24 that "USA birth rate has been below min sustainable levels for 50 years" and pinned it to the top of his more than 100 million-follower Twitter account.
The outlet obtained court filings to change the children's legal names to include Musk and Zilis' last names as middle names.
CNN Business could not independently confirm the documents, but a Travis County, Texas court docket showed the name change petition was filed in April 2022 and granted in early May.
Musk's signature and the court's stamp appear on the documents, which list Zilis as the mother.
Musk did not immediately respond to requests for comment sent to representatives at Tesla, SpaceX and Neuralink.
Zilis' professional ties to Musk date to April 2016, when she became an OpenAI advisor. Musk cofounded OpenAI, a nonprofit whose mission is to "benefit humanity through AI."
Musk live-streamed an event in August 2020 to showcase Neuralink's implanted technology in a pig. Later, Neuralink claimed its chips could make monkeys play Pong. Neuralink has recently had to address concerns about its testing practises,
